DECEMBER 2006
CLUB NEWSLETTER

Howdy folks. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and has big plans for Christmas and New Years. Anyone start their winter projects? If so, hope they are going as planned. Mine is still underway and moving along. I've decided to quit guessing on a ETC (estimated time of completion). It should be done sometime in `07, hopefully early `07.

Now on to our latest event. Once again we had good wheelin' weather @ Disney, OK. Now the drive home wasn't the best, our VP, Mike Scherr, said it wasn't bad though, but after riding with him up Little Blue I don't think anytime he's in his Scout seat he's upset. We headed out Friday late morning, received a call from Nathan and heard that his plans had changed. We were sorry to hear that, he'll make it next time and they should have 3 in the family. Congratulations to Nathan & Carrie on the newest edition to the Ziet family. As we arrived, we saw two other binders already there. One I recognized, Jack Mitchell, the other I didn't. It was Jerome Wilcoxin, Darrin Wilcoxins's parents.

We got unpacked into one of Hogan's campers. Visited and looked over each others rigs. I had to borrow again, but still had a great time. Richard Thrasher, Darrin Wilcoxin, Tim Gilpin, Mike Scherr & Binder Bird Brian showed up late Friday and early Saturday.

We started out Saturday morning in the "Rock Garden", where there are lots of different ledges and crawling going on and then in the blink of an eye we were invaded by "Rocktoberfest" participants. Before the arrival, Darrin climbed a well know stair case that includes a set of 3 ledges with all being at least 4 feet tall. Good Job Darnn. The Binder Bird tried to no avail and later figured out that when he had done it before he had less air in the rear shocks.

After that we headed to the trails, without rain for quite some time we figured it would be dry. Nope, still some water holes. Not a big deal for anyone though. Thrasher showed us that his truck is a very capable rig. For some reason it reminds me of "Lil' Mule" on Romancing the Stone movie, just seems like nothing could stop it. We found out different later. Time for a lunch break, hamburgers at PJ's grill it was.

After our feed fest we headed towards the waterfall to find it to be packed with people. We continued on to Little Blue and waited for our turn and the IH's proceeded to crawl through. I decided to ride with Mike to save my buddies passenger rear tail light cap. He provided plenty of excitement, but couldn't get the 31's to hook up and out of the exit. He needed just a little extra horse power. (Hence the picture). The Barwick's had showed up so George and I gave him a little tug and up he came. By the way, we're glad George, Kim and Brandi could make it, but George, you are going to have to at least bring your rig to the trails when you come and not slash a tire on the way to the trails. Needless to say, no playing for George, just a nice trip.

Soon after that Richard found something that would stop his "Lil' Mule". He made it up Little Blue and was headed around another truck when his passenger side tires found the water hole to be pretty deep. He laid his truck over on it's side without hardly a scratch. Lucky maybe, but the roll cage landed on the rocks and kept the doors & fenders from being scuffed to bad. We got Richard back up on all fours and then it was getting late, so we headed back to Hogan's.

Mike & I ended up getting registered for the Rocktoberfest give away (just barely). As Mike got his ticket they actually had drawn the first number. We both ended up winning, me a set of grab handles that attach to a roll cage and Mike a set of D 60 disk brake brackets from Sumner Machine in Ark City, KS. We later donated our winnings to the club give away.

Bob Supplee of Supplee 4 Wheel Drive, donated a set of offroad lights and the club purchased a Tuffy security console from Bob. Thrasher donated a Coleman Propane Stove and the club donated hats & t shirts. Before we drew tickets we needed to eat. Burgers & Bratwurst, potato salad, chips & all the fixing's were provided by the club. After starting a camp fire we held our give away. Here's a list of the winners:

Brandi Barwick -- Grab handles

Mike Scherr -- Tuffy Console

Tim Gilpin -- Dana 60 brake brackets

Brittany Gilpin -- Coleman Stove

Stephen Scherr -- SW Scout Hat

Katy Scherr -- Off Road lights

Madeline Scherr, Richard Thrasher & Darrin Wilcoxin -- SW Scout Shirts

Some members went on a night run with the "big boys" from Ponca City. Tim got to ride in a tricked out `Yota with LT1 and dual transfer cases, sitting on top of 1 ton gears & 42" tires. His smile was still huge the next morning. The next morning with rain starting, everyone packed & headed out. Across the dam to eat breakfast, but first George & I stopped to help Thrasher remove the steps from his motor home. Not really sure what gave up but the steps weren't going up, so off they came. Mike was headed to OKC with nothing but a bikini top over head. Not a swimsuit, but a Scout bikini top. He later told me the rain wasn't bad till he got close to home. We would like to welcome a previous member back to SW Scouts, Darrin Wilcoxin.

As I finish this the snow is still deep but melting and we are preparing for Christmas. Waiting on next years work schedule so I can figure out a date for the annual meeting.

Hope everyone has good safe holidays and we'll see you all in `07.
